Baltimore Museum of Industry Weddings Overview

Baltimore Museum of Industry Weddings are some of my favorites! Talk about a truly “Baltimore” wedding venue! With lots of local history, the BMI’s waterfront location with city skyline views, and so many options and backdrops for photos, is such a great option for Baltimore couples planning their wedding. The core of the museum building originally was an oyster cannery, which is the only surviving cannery building in Baltimore.

Some of the huge benefits of this venue include:

• Free and plentiful parking
• 4 options for your ceremony setup.
• An amazing “plan B” space in the event of inclement weather (if it rains, this is *the* venue I want to be at!)
• Galleries full of local history, available for guests to explore.
• Rentals include 25 tables (60″ rounds each seating 8-10 guests), chairs, a sweetheart table, tables for guest registration/gifts/favors, a security officer
• Did I mention that amazing waterfront view!?!

The exhibition galleries, including the Machine Shop and Cannery, Garment Loft, or Print Shop, are available to be opened for your guests during the first two hours of your event for an additional fee.  

Wedding Ceremony Setups

There are 4 locations on site that are available for wedding ceremonies on the Baltimore Museum of Industry campus. The Brick Patio, the Pavilion, the Point, and inside in front of the glass wall of windows.

Wedding Ceremonies on The Brick Patio

The Brick Patio is immediately adjacent to the Decker Gallery, and offers the logistical ease of walking out the door of the building and down the aisle. You can have everyone sit on the upper level while you stand below in front of the gates to the dock, or you can have your immediate family sit on the lower level with you. You have the option to use the stairs or the ramp as the aisle. Pro Tip: either way, you will want to keep a center aisle clear for your photographer to have enough room to get a straight shot down the middle!

Wedding Ceremonies in The Pavilion

The pavilion can accommodate 300 seated guests or more for cocktail reception service; additional space is available on the adjoining waterfront point. Clear sides can be lowered during mildly inclement weather.

Cocktail Hour Setups

Cocktail Hour can be held on the brick patio or in the exhibit galleries, or both. I have seen caterers place an hors d’oeuvres station set up in the lobby and also in between the Garment Shop and the Print Shop. Bars are typically set up in the Automobile Exhibit and in front of the window wall. An outdoor bar is also set up if cocktail hour is mostly outside. In addition, a new trend I’m seeing is ‘pre-ceremony cocktails’, with a tub or canoe of canned/bottled beverages and small snacks for guests to enjoy while they wait for the ceremony to begin.

BMI Wedding Reception Setups

For your wedding reception in the Alonso G. Decker Gallery, you can place your dance floor and entertainment in a few different spots. Many of the weddings that I have photographed have the band or deejay in the corner, with the dance floor right in front of the windows. Some have opted to place the dance floor in the middle of the room, with tables on both sides. And others have opted to have the deejay or band to the side of the room, with the dance floor perpendicular to the windows wall.

The Decker Gallery can accommodate 300 guests for a seated event; 250 seated with space for a dance floor and food stations; or 500 for a cocktail reception service.

Fave Photo Spots

There are so many great outdoor spots for photos at the Baltimore Museum of Industry. Some of my favorite spots including the BMI marquee sign, the metal sculpture, the tug boat & pier, the pavilion, the tall grasses, and of course the Domino Sugars Sign, which looks amazing lit up at night! The exhibits inside also lend themselves to great photo backdrops. The Garment loft, the Cannery, the Machine shop, the Movie Theater, and the Ice Cream Parlor/Pharmacy are some of my favorites, especially for wedding party photos!

For family portraits in inclement weather, the large gears in the lobby make for an on-theme backdrop.

One of my favorite aspects of couples getting married at the Baltimore Museum of Industry, is that you can commemorate the spot where you hosted your wedding!
