WPPI 2012 Recap Part 2 :: Leaving Las Vegas!

Ok – so you’re caught up on day 1-3 of WPPI in Las Vegas.  If not – check out the first part of the recap HERE!   Now for Monday night – Wednesday.

Monday night, after the photo walk with Moshe, I headed straight to Craftsteak for dinner!  I had been dreaming and salivating about their short ribs, and HAD to get back there to indulge!  No pictures – I was too focused on inhaling & enjoying the meal.  If you get the chance – GO.  Run…don’t walk to get these short ribs.   Shred them up and make little sliders out of the rolls they give you. MMmmmmmmmm…..YUM.  After retreating to the room for a quick wardrobe change, I headed back out for the walk back to the MGM, and ran into Alicia White, who was also walking there!  Justin and Mary hosted a Mix and Mingle that night for all alums of their workshops, at Centrifuge at the MGM.  It was great to see some of the people I met at the NYC workshop (Josh Guiles), and to meet some new people!  Unfortunately, I didn’t take any pictures!?  So you’re going to have to trust me that it happened  😉   I hit the hay early that night, since I knew I had an early morning ahead of me.

6am on Tuesday morning, a small group (including Alica and Katie Jane) gathered in the lobby of the Signature for a sunrise shoot hosted by Justin and Mary.  Starbucks wasn’t even open yet – THAT’S how early it was!   And boy was it COLD!! Seriously – like 30 degrees cold.  Luckily I had thought to bring handwarmers, and they kept my trigger finger from freezing up entirely!  I was surprised and delighted to find out that our models for this sunrise shoot were none other than my friends from Baltimore – Liz and Ryan from Elizabeth Ryan Photography!  They are SUCH an amazing couple, and it was a pleasure to photograph them!  Here are just a few of the images – check back soon for a full blog post!

                                      that’s me and Mary ^
After the shoot – I headed off to a class, and then raced over to meet up with Victor Sizemore.  I had tweeted and won a contest hosted by Victor/NightOwl/Madera for a free spot to Victor’s photoshoot today.  I was superstoked, because I had participated in his Mad Men themed shootout last year at the Palms Penthouse, and knew this one would be amazing as well!   About 20 of us took a limotruck (complete with stripper pole in it!) about 10 minutes from the strip to a ballpark complex.
Once we were there, we had the opportunity to shoot a 1920’s baseball themed shoot.  Victor himself got dudded up in some old-time baseball gear, while the girls donned some vintage apparel.  It was a lot of fun and a great chance to shoot something I normally wouldn’t!  Check back for a full blog post on this one!
After a long day of shooting and learning, I had a nice dinner with Emily Chastain at Nobhill Tavern.  I had heard about their Cable Car Cocktails, and boy were they tasty!!  After dinner, I made a very quick donation to the Roulette table  🙁  This is a picture Emily snapped of me, about to make my donation…
Wednesday morning, I got up and was off to the convention to catch the ShowIt Flash mob!

Daily Video: Flash Mob from Showit on Vimeo.

Then it was one last ShowIt United class – State of the Industry with Jeff Jochum – before I was off to the airport to finally head home!!  I was thrilled to see Carly Fuller and Megan Evans in the check-in line, and hung out with them while we waited for our flight home.  It was a full flight, so I was happy to have normal people to sit with, talk “shop”,  and recap our trip with!   (again, no pics…)
All in all – a successful, fun, and informative trip!
Viva Las Vegas!
