The day before Jamie+Cecil’s wedding, Jamie’s friends and family gathered at her parents house for the Indian Wedding Mehndi Celebration & Sangeet. This was a time for the bride to be blessed with sanctified rituals*. The henna that was applied to Jamie’s hands, had Cecil’s name spelled out in the artwork, and he was tasked with finding it to show his sharp eye and active brain. 🙂 It is said that the darker the henna, the more her husband will love her. She is also not supposed to work in the marital home until the henna fades away. Each family member and friend took turns swiping a turmeric paste onto Jamie’s body as a symbol of good luck and well wishing, also offering Jamie a gift. After the rituals were completed, the entire family gathered for a plethora of food and dancing! Stay tuned for Jamie+Cecil’s dual-faith, multi-cultural wedding on the blog!
